How PHP With Psychiatric Support Provides Strong Clinical Care

PHP with Psychiatric Support in St. George, UT

Daily Psychiatric Care and Real Structure, While You Sleep at Home

Lions Gate Rehab offers PHP with psychiatric support at 260 West St. George Blvd., St. George, UT 84770. If you need psychiatric support in St. George, this is where we treat it. We do not treat it as a monthly medication check. We build it into a full day of structured treatment for people whose substance use and mental health are tangled together.

Many people land here after residential treatment. Others need far more than a weekly therapy hour but do not need to live on site. A partial hospitalization program fills that space. You spend the treatment day with our clinical team. In the evening you go home, to family, or to sober living. The next morning you come back and bring what happened the night before with you.

That is the difference between this program and a standard outpatient psychiatry clinic. A clinic sees you for a short appointment and sends you on your way. Our PHP surrounds medication management with daily groups, individual therapy, case management, and a clinical team that watches how you actually function. Your psychiatric care does not happen in a vacuum. It happens next to the work of changing how you live.

Lions Gate Rehab is owned and operated by people in long-term recovery, with more than 70 years of combined sobriety among them. We are not corporate-owned or investor-driven. Leadership is in the building and involved in daily operations. Our PHP and IOP in St. George hold Joint Commission accreditation. Our Clinical Director, Aaron Ward, has been in recovery since 1990. Medication management is supervised by our Medical Director, Adon Pearson, PA. Our licensed clinicians hold CMHC, LCSW, and SUDC credentials.

What psychiatric support at Lions Gate Rehab includes

Psychiatric support is part of every level of care here. It is not an add-on you request after admission. Within our PHP, it covers:

  • Psychiatric assessment at intake, with co-occurring conditions such as trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and suicidal ideation identified from the start
  • Ongoing reassessment throughout treatment, so your plan changes as your symptoms change
  • Medication management supervised by Medical Director Adon Pearson, PA
  • Risk assessment and safety planning when clinically indicated
  • Individual therapy with a primary therapist who knows your history
  • Daily therapy groups that build in Seeking Safety, DBT skills, and CBT
  • Dual diagnosis treatment that addresses substance use and mental health together
  • Case management to coordinate care and support you as you step down
  • Faith-based recovery services for clients who want their faith in the work

Some people search for TMS or ketamine treatment when they look for psychiatric help. Those are not part of the services Lions Gate Rehab offers. Our medication management also does not include medication-assisted treatment or opioid maintenance, such as long-term buprenorphine or methadone. We say that plainly so you can make the right choice for your family.

Who this program is for

This program fits people whose substance use and mental health problems feed each other. It fits the person who drinks to quiet anxiety and then wakes up with more of it. It fits someone with bipolar disorder whose drug use keeps blowing up their medication plan. It also fits someone carrying trauma that has never been named out loud.

PHP is often the right level when:

  • You are stepping down from residential treatment and still need intensive daily support
  • Your symptoms are too heavy or complex for weekly therapy alone
  • Work, family, or relationships are falling apart under the weight of your symptoms
  • You need regular psychiatric oversight but not round-the-clock supervision
  • Previous attempts at outpatient care did not hold

If you are a family member reading this, you may be the one making the decision. Your loved one may have just been hospitalized, arrested, or lost a relationship. You may be afraid that one more failed program will end badly. We understand that fear. Many of us have stood where you are standing.

One thing families often worry about is whether a psychiatric diagnosis will become an excuse. It will not. A dual diagnosis is never a reason to lower expectations here. We treat the depression, the trauma, or the bipolar disorder seriously. We still expect your loved one to show up, do the work, and take responsibility for change. Real recovery takes effort, structure, and facing uncomfortable truths. Comfort is not the goal. Lasting change is.

What mental health conditions are treated at this facility?

Lions Gate Rehab treats substance use and mental health conditions together. Conditions we treat include:

  • Substance use disorder
  • Alcohol addiction
  • Drug addiction
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Personality disorders
  • Suicidal ideation
  • Dual diagnosis, including depression and addiction, anxiety and addiction, bipolar disorder and addiction, personality disorders and addiction, and suicidal ideation with substance use

Co-occurring conditions are common. The National Institute on Drug Abuse describes how often substance use and mental health disorders show up in the same person. We plan for it from the first day rather than discovering it halfway through treatment.

How PHP compares with other levels of care

Families often hear four acronyms in a single phone call and leave more confused than before. Here is how the levels of care Lions Gate Rehab offers compare.

Level of care Where you sleep Treatment intensity Psychiatric involvement Best fit
Residential On site Highly structured, all day, every day Integrated into daily care Safety concerns, unstable home, or a need to fully step away
PHP (Partial Hospitalization) At home or sober living Full treatment day, most days of the week Integrated assessment, medication management, and safety planning Leaving residential, or symptoms too heavy for IOP
IOP (Intensive Outpatient) At home or sober living Several hours a day, fewer hours than PHP Clinical support continues at lower intensity; most clients manage their own medications Growing stability, ready for more independence
Outpatient At home Scheduled sessions around work and life Continued coordination as needed Maintaining gains after more intensive care

Lions Gate Rehab also offers social detox, day treatment, and sober living. Many clients move through more than one level. Some start in residential, step to PHP, then IOP, then outpatient, while living in sober living for part of that time. Connected care means you do not start over with strangers each time your level changes.

What a typical week looks like in PHP

Your days in PHP follow a predictable rhythm. That rhythm matters. For many people, structure is exactly what their lives have been missing.

Most of your treatment day is spent in therapist-led groups. Seeking Safety helps people with trauma and substance use build safety in the present before digging into the past. DBT skills teach distress tolerance and emotion regulation, the tools you need when a craving or a panic spike hits. CBT helps you catch the thoughts that keep both the addiction and the depression or anxiety running.

You also meet with your primary therapist one on one. These sessions are where the deeper work happens. What your therapist learns in those sessions shapes the groups. Group content flexes based on real-time information from individual sessions and the behavior staff observe. If several clients are struggling with the same pattern, the groups move toward it. The Clinical Director makes the final call on focus.

Medication management runs alongside the therapy. Your medical provider reviews how your medications are working, watches for side effects, and adjusts when needed. Because you are in the building most days, problems surface fast. A medication that is flattening your mood or making you jittery does not go unnoticed for a month.

Each evening you go home. That is part of the treatment, not a break from it. You practice the skills in real life. Maybe you hit a hard conversation with your spouse or a craving on the drive past an old bar. You bring it back the next day and work through it with people who saw you yesterday.

How we integrate medication management with intensive therapy

Medication alone rarely fixes a life that has been organized around substances. Therapy alone can stall when untreated symptoms keep knocking you down. In our PHP, the two work together on purpose.

Here is what that looks like in practice. Your medical provider, your primary therapist, and the Clinical Director discuss you in clinical staffing. They compare what the medication data shows with what your therapist hears and what group staff observe. A client might report feeling fine while staff watch them withdraw in group every afternoon. That gap gets addressed.

When risk is present, the team does a risk assessment and builds a safety plan with you. Suicidal ideation is not something we hand off elsewhere. It is something we treat alongside the substance use.

This level of oversight is the clearest difference between our PHP and standard outpatient psychiatry. In a typical outpatient setting, the prescriber sees a snapshot. Here, the team sees the whole week.

How step-down decisions are made

We do not move clients down a level because a calendar says it is time. We move them when their behavior shows they are ready.

Take co-occurring anxiety as an example. Before stepping a client down, our team looks for concrete markers:

  • Can the client use a DBT distress-tolerance skill unprompted during a panic spike?
  • Has the client gone at least 30 days without needing PRN medication for acute anxiety?
  • Does the client initiate in group rather than withdraw?

These markers are reviewed in clinical staffing with the primary therapist, the Clinical Director, and the medical provider. The Clinical Director signs off. Families tell us this is reassuring. It means the decision rests on what your loved one can actually do, not on how many days have passed.

When a client steps down to IOP, most begin managing their own medications. Clinical support continues at a lower intensity. Case management helps coordinate the transition so nothing falls through the cracks.

What the work looks like when it goes deep

Psychiatric support is not only about medication. Sometimes it is about finding the belief that has been driving everything.

In one case from our St. George IOP, a client carried a severe resentment toward his mother for allowing him to be abused. His therapist asked targeted questions. “How old were you when this happened, and what could a child that age realistically control?” “If your own son were in that exact situation, would you say he deserved it?” “So what makes you the exception?”

Those questions uncovered something he had never said out loud. He believed he deserved the abuse. Once that belief was named, he could work through it with his sponsor. He completed the program and stayed engaged in recovery.

That is the kind of work our clinical team does every day. It is direct. It is not always comfortable. It reaches the place where change actually happens.

What makes Lions Gate Rehab different

Plenty of programs say they treat co-occurring disorders. Here is what that means at Lions Gate Rehab.

Ownership in recovery. The people who own this program have lived recovery for decades. They know the difference between a client who is coasting and a client who is changing. That knowledge shapes how we run the program.

Integration, not referral. Your mental health treatment does not live in a separate office with a separate team. It lives in the same building and the same staffing meetings as your addiction treatment.

Accountability over comfort. We are warm, and we are honest. We will tell your loved one the truth even when they do not want to hear it. We believe that is what love looks like in treatment.

Credentials you can verify. Joint Commission accreditation for our St. George PHP and IOP. A Medical Director supervising medication management. A Clinical Director in recovery since 1990. Licensed CMHC, LCSW, and SUDC clinicians.

A specialized track for pilots. Lions Gate Rehab also runs a HIMS program for FAA pilots with substance use disorders. It reflects the same standards of structure and clinical rigor.

Insurance and payment

Cost is often the question families are most afraid to ask. You deserve a straight answer.

Lions Gate Rehab accepts Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Magellan, TRICARE, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage for PHP depends on your specific plan and on clinical need. Our admissions team can verify your benefits and explain what your plan covers before treatment begins. That way you are not blindsided later.

If you have a plan we did not list, ask anyway. The admissions team can walk you through your options, including private pay.

For veterans and military families using TRICARE, the St. George VA Clinic is another local resource for ongoing care coordination.

How do I get immediate psychiatric help?

If you or someone you love is in danger right now, do not wait for an admissions process. Get emergency help first. Lions Gate Rehab does not provide 24-hour nursing or emergency psychiatric services. Our PHP is a structured day program built for people who are safe enough to go home at night.

Once the immediate danger has passed, Lions Gate Rehab can help you figure out the right level of care. That may be social detox, residential treatment, or PHP.

How do I get immediate psychiatric help or crisis support?

  1. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room. Do not drive someone who is actively suicidal or violent yourself if you can avoid it.
  2. Use a national crisis resource if the situation is urgent but not an emergency. SAMHSA lists national crisis and treatment referral resources available around the clock.
  3. Stay with your loved one if it is safe to do so. Remove access to weapons, medications, and substances where you can.
  4. Once they are stable, reach out to Lions Gate Rehab. Use the call or contact buttons on this page. Our admissions team will ask what happened and talk through the right next step.
  5. Plan the bridge into treatment. If detox is needed, social detox or residential care may come first. PHP may follow as the next step.

How do I schedule an initial psychiatric evaluation?

Getting started at Lions Gate Rehab follows a clear path.

  1. Reach out through the call or contact buttons on this page. You can contact us for yourself or for a loved one.
  2. Talk with admissions. We will ask about substance use, mental health history, current medications, and recent crises. You do not have to have everything figured out.
  3. Verify your insurance. Our team checks your benefits with your carrier and explains what is covered.
  4. Confirm the right level of care. Based on what we learn, we recommend PHP, residential, IOP, or another level. If PHP is not the right fit, we will say so.
  5. Complete your intake assessment. On your first day, our clinical team assesses co-occurring conditions such as trauma, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. This shapes your treatment plan.
  6. Begin treatment. Your groups, individual sessions, and medication management begin, and your plan keeps adjusting as you progress.

Serving St. George and Southern Utah

Lions Gate Rehab serves people across Southern Utah, including St. George, Cedar City, Toquerville, and Parowan. Clients in our PHP often come from nearby communities and live at home or in sober living while attending. For families across Washington and Iron counties, that means intensive care without sending someone across the country.

We are local. Our leadership lives this work. When you walk into our St. George campus, you meet the people who run the program, not a call center.

You have probably tried hard already. You may have watched a loved one go through programs that treated the drinking but ignored the depression, or treated the anxiety but ignored the drugs. Psychiatric support at Lions Gate Rehab is built for the whole person. It is built by people who know recovery is possible because they live it.

This page is for general information and does not replace an individual clinical evaluation. Treatment recommendations, level of care, and insurance coverage depend on each person’s assessment and plan. Lions Gate Rehab does not provide medication-assisted treatment, opioid maintenance medications, or 24-hour nursing. If you are in immediate danger, contact emergency services.
